Trailers are built to reach a wide audience. As such, when organizations that rate trailers such as the BBFC give a higher rating than expected to a trailer, cuts are sometimes made.

This is an incomplete (and constantly growing) list of trailers that have been modified in order to receive a lower age rating. (This list does not apply for works that would have been banned if not censored.)

BBFC Edit

  • Audition (theatrical trailer) - The impact of horror shots was reduced to receive a 15 rating.
  • Blockbuster Trailers (July 2004) - A trailer for Gothika was cut entirely to receive a PG rating.
  • Dragonball: Evolution (Trailer G) - A slow-motion shot of someone being kicked in the face was cut to receive a PG rating. Uncut film classified with the same PG rating.
  • Ghostbusters 2 (theatrical trailer) - An unknown 5 seconds of cuts were required to receive a PG rating.
  • Jetix (issue 3 DVD) - Two video game trailers had some violence cut to receive a PG rating.
  • Jolly LLB 2 (trailer #1) - Brief moderate violence was cut to receive a PG rating.
  • Let's Be Cops (Trailer F) - A scene of drug use was cut to receive a 12A rating.
  • MyMovies.Net Trailer Compilation 14/05/09 - Trailers with moderate violence and sex references were cut entirely to receive a PG rating.

  • Sleeping With the Enemy - What the BBFC described as 'strong menace' involving a woman crying as a man speaks to her in a threatening tone over the phone was cut to receive a PG rating.
