The Ethics Organization of Computer Software, also known for short as EOCS, is an organization that rates PC games such as eroge and dating sims in Japan. It is made up of members of the Japanese adult game industry.
Ratings
- General: All ages. Examples of this include the visual novel Clannad.
- Restricted: Must be 15 or above. Examples of this include the visual novel Steins;Gate.
- 18+: Must be 18 or above. Examples of this include the visual novel School Days.
Trivia
- Often, games will contain different ratings across different systems, with possibly altered content. For an example of games' ratings getting higher on different systems, the visual novel Clannad is rated "General" on the PC and Android, but the versions for PlayStation 2, PlayStation 3, and the Xbox 360 are rated "Restricted". For an example of games' ratings getting lower on different systems, the visual novel School Days is rated 18+ on the PC and PlayStation Portable, but is rated "Restricted" on the PlayStation 2.
